Happy Wednesday for me

Otis went through his surgery this morning and is doing fine. Better than me!! I’ve been a nervous wreck. I pick him up at 11:30 and rush to get him home and settled and back to work. I have been busy making Christmas ornaments for my friends in between trips to the vet, painting furniture, day job, and taking care of my mother. Wow, not enough time!!! Oh, I had a last minute change for Hope, so she will be delayed a few more days. She's worth the wait.

Hope and a prayer for Christmas

Here’s a peek at Hope. I will tell you her new color is grey and white. I love any vintage furniture on castors. She will be for sale by Thursday. My mind is not on furniture right now but Otis, my Boston terrier. I had to take him to the vet Saturday and it was not good news. He will have to be operated on before the first of the year. He is 10 years old and I am so worried about him making it through this operation, that it has made me crazy all weekend!! He has been with me since he was six weeks old, so as far as I am concerned, he is my child. Prayer is a very powerful thing, so if you are reading this, please, please say a prayer for Otis asking God to let him be okay!! Debra

Forgot about Henrietta!!

Here’s a photo of my Henrietta Cocktail table. She was made by Henredon and is solid mahogany. I decided to redo her look with Paris grey caulk paint with old white details. Her beauty and style will last forever and can be mixed in with today’s modern world decor. My garage has become my workshop for now and I have barely enough room for my car! It’s ridiculous!!! I think I have another obsession besides shoes and a woman can never have enough shoes!!! I think I have gone over and beyond a love for vintage furniture, too!! Ms. Polly has found a home in Easley, so hopefully everyone else will have new homes to go to this coming year and I can have my garage back! I am getting ready for another busy weekend and it’s hard to believe Christmas is only a week away and my brother is coming home from Fairbanks, Alaska next Friday. It will be so nice to have him home with us. Am I prepared????? Not even close!! I want to bake, make homemade Christmas decorations, paint, shop and the list go on and on and on…..Wishful thinking!!! I will have to keep saying, “I can do this”.Pin It

Modern shades of grey

Lillianna has shades of grey and with black accents and is made of solid oak. Her drawer handle is black and grey and she measures 28" deep, 24" wide, 23" tall. Going forward I am going to show you the before and after. It’s such a transformation sometimes I am in awe over it. I hope you like her as much as I do.

For the love of music!!

I added the final touch’s to Ms. Polly a few days ago. Growing up my mother insisted I take piano lessons, so several times a week I would be at Ms. Polly’s house practicing my piano lessons while all of my friends were playing outside. So, every time I look at this piece I think of Ms. Polly and that’s how she got her name. It’s funny how your childhood memories are so vivid in your mind 40+ years later. Now, back to Ms. Polly. She makes a statement in the bathroom and would be perfect in a half bath that you could share her beauty with all of your guests. I can assure you they would comment on her! She has beveled glass, the top, both sides and the front have sheet music in black and the inside is in reverse….black shelves with white sheet music. Her knob says "I know its around here somewhere". That's usually what I am thinking but never say out loud. She's a heavy girl so make sure she is secure on the wall. She is for sale.

Finally Finished This Weekend!

I have been working a little along on this solid oak baby for the past few weeks in between everything else going on. I am sooooo happy to have him done. This is Leopold. Bold name for a bold desk! This was very drab when I found it with a honey maple finish but still as solid as it was the day it was made. I immediately saw a vision of “bold” about it, so here it is in black and white with leopard drawers. It would be a conversation piece in a great room or a bedroom. Make it very feminine with a crystal lamp and/or a few touches of pink’s, yellow’s or blue’s. Any yummy color would be a great accent to this piece.

Magnificent Talent

I wish I had more time to surf the internet for all of the magnificent talent out there refurbishing old forgotten furniture. All of you ladies are amazing and I hope to be a part of the “group”. I worked on a few pieces this weekend and I hope to have them ready to show later on in the week. I hope you like black and white zebra (my daughter’s idea)!! I also found a 1940’s chest that has the most unusual drawer pulls I have ever seen, so I was very excited about giving her a new home. I will have to live with her a few days to decide what her new makeover should be. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear about it. Deb

Wallpaper????

I am going to try something new this weekend…..adding wallpaper to furniture. It doesn’t look that hard, but….and there’s always that ..but!! once you get started there’s no backing up. Okay Barb, you are the professional here and I am just following along. I like to play around with color and I even like using stencil, so maybe the wallpaper will go well. I have all of these great ideas in my head, just having the time to get it all done and of course finding just the right piece of furniture doesn’t hurt either. Have a nice weekend. Deb

Moving towards Christmas!

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Now we are moving towards Christmas. I could not stay away from my painting very long. I have a few new pieces to show you and I will try to get them on here in the next few days. These are a little different, but as you already know, I like different!! Brookwood Church in Simpsonville, SC will be having an arts and crafts show soon and I hope to have some of my pieces displayed there for sale. I will get all of the details this afternoon and keep you updated on the event.

Thanksgiving fun

Have you ever wished for more hours in a day? I do it all the time. I became the caregiver of my 92 year old mother a few years ago. She has so many stories to tell and I love every minute we have together. However, I do a lot of praying…. Lord, please give me the strength to keep going. I am like a juggling act! A day job, caring for my mother and two boston terriers, and my passion...painting my vintage furniture. Wow!! I would buy roller skates if I knew how to skate!! Wanta teach me? Mama will be supervising my cooking this Thanksgiving. Great southern cooking and as you southerners know, everything fried right down to the corn. Have you ever tried fried corn in fatback grease and a piece of cornbread? Love it!! Have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving!

The trip from England

I found this 1920's drop leaf table a few months ago. I had never seen one like her before and I like different, so I bought her. She reminded me of my great aunt, so I named her “Norma”. The lady said it was her grandmother’s favorite piece of furniture but she didn’t know the history of her. You’ve got to love the internet….I did a search and found out she was imported from England. I was so excited to find out the story about Norma and her journey to Simpsonville, SC. So here she is in all her glory. Norma is only 12” wide when she’s down on both sides and opens to a big 60” when sides are up. I hope you like her as much as I do. Put a few colored chairs by her side and she would make a great addition to your home.

A very long weekend

Wow…As much as I love to paint, this weekend was over the top. I painted until I was sick of it for a while anyway. I finished Josephine and I hope you like her. She is so much prettier in person than this photo. Maybe I will give myself a camera for Christmas!

Plans for the weekend

I have a Josephine chest that I painted and she’s sitting in my garage. I decided today that I am going to give her a facelift. Barb at “Knack Studio’s” has truly been an inspiration to me! She has given me the courage to step outside my comfort zone. So, Josephine will come alive with color this weekend.

Busy Day

I am beginning to get the hang of this blog finally. I spent hours on it yesterday. I am loading up my car tonight to deliver some of my small accessory items to Southern Shabby so Chic tomorrow. They’re located on East Curtis Street in Simpsonville, SC. Check them out! Here’s a photo of a vanity stool I have for sale in my Shabby Chic Cottage Collection.

I found an old bird cage yesterday.  Someone had glued flowers on it.  Awful...I brought it home, removed all of the flowers.  Then I added a mix of aqua and whitewash.  I love it.  I will have it on CraigsList tomorrow.  Stay tuned!!

Hard at work

I have been working on several pieces. This will be my cottage collection.  I used Paris Grey and Old White caulk paint and regular latex paint for the pops of color. I added stenciling to these pieces and I am very happy with the results.  Just to let you know, I added a punch of color to the inside of the buffet...yellow!!!

I found the old school desk rummaging around.  The artist painted this piece "free hand".  I am jealous.  So much detail!!

I have most of my items on Craigslist for Sale until I can get my website published.  So ladies, start shopping!!
