When I see it I only envision what it could be. I use chalk, chalk & clay and milk paints to transform a tired, dreary antique into a “one of a kind” beauty! Like my page on Facebook to see what I am doing from day to day. Each piece has been carefully designed for todays modern home. If you are eclectic, then you will love my collection.thebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.comBlogger82125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2426272209615776831.post-29665963350224921802017-07-23T09:49:00.001-07:002017-07-23T09:57:34.875-07:00Reselling Painted Antiques<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

Let me tell you a little about reselling painted
antiques…….. There are so many people everywhere painting and reselling furniture these days that Facebook as become a flea
market. Some of the painted furniture,
in my opinion, is very well done and the designer made it there own, some don’t
have a sense of design so they just copy others, and some just need to hang up
their paint brush and find something they are really good at…..sorry, but as I
said, just MY OPINION…..everybody has
one!! Its hard to find your place in the painted furniture world but making it your own style is what's sets your work apart from just another painted antique. I usually spend days making sure
the antique that I purchased is stable inside and out. Remember, the most beautiful upscale antiques
had no air conditioning in the early 1900's so over time the glue dissolves so its important to
check everything. I am not a carpenter,
so I don’t ever buy antiques without drawers, doors, etc. You DIY’ers out there have to be very good to
make it look like it came that way instead of looking like a road side pick
up. I have seen some, not many, that
look like it came that way!! These are
professional DIY’ers for sure!! One
thing I have learned over the years is if you put one, only one cheaply done piece
in a room with upscale furniture, it stands out like a eye sore and you don’t
enjoy the beautiful ambience of the room.
Being a surfer of Facebook, I see pricing from very low to very
high. This is tough!! Most times, not all, but most……if the pricing is very low, usually the quality
of work is very low. Meaning -- no quality
paints used, no time spend on any repairs, just painted. Medium to higher prices usually take the time
for any repairs, higher end products
used and time spend detailing their finished antique. Once in a while someone will be moving or
reselling and a buyer gets lucky and buys it at a great price, but these finds
are few and far between. I have seen
some spray painted antiques, mostly being sold in stores around our area and I
bought a sprayer but haven’t used it yet.
It gives the antique a more store bought appearance, but I personally
like the personal touch to my pieces. Especially
in the waxing and finishing touches of a hands on painted piece. I might try spraying on
a chair at some point. Old antique
unique chairs are one of my weakness but they are so time consuming to paint!!
Ugh!! Why I keep buying them….crazy I guess!!?? I hope this has helped our clients and potential buyers know a little about the behind the scenes.
This has been a crazy week.
I always drive my old work truck just in case I find something when I am
out running errands. Monday I decided to
drive my car so I hopped in and it would not even turn over….dead, dead, dead. I love my old beat up truck!! It doesn’t look beautiful but it is
reliable!! Technology……… so many bells and whistles to go wrong, yet
the old auto’s run forever. ……. Just
like furniture.

This new furniture is junk and does not holdup to everyday
use yet very expensive. To my surprise
even Thomasville and some of the top manufacturers are making junk with big
price tags. I guess that is why people
are jumping on the money train to sell their antiques at high prices these
days.

I think of myself as your personally shopper. I am always trying to find a wonderful unique
antique at a bargain price FOR YOU.
Once I find that wonderful piece, then the work begins. Prepping it and giving it a facelift. For me it is sometimes an agonizing process
…. What color??. As most everyone that
knows me, I think outside the box. I
have never been about plain and simple, so many of my pieces have paisleys
designs, etc on them. I do however keep
my furniture colors classic so it is easy to accessorize your room with bold
crazy colors even by changing the knobs. Anyway, got to run…..lots to do to day and I
need to get busy!!!!

I have not been on my blog in a long, long time. I recently moved back to Patsy’s Attractions
in Fountain Inn, SC. I like being there
and its always nice laughing and talking with Patsy’s. I may or may not be successful there since
it’s a distance from Greenville, but hopefully my wonderful customers will feel
like it’s worth the trip. Fountain Inn has some nice shops worth checking out
plus J Peters Restaurant is right next door and the food is fabulous!!

I am frequently asked about repainting pieces of furniture
and each time I learn that it has been painted in a latex paint. Using latex on furniture is tricky…….I am
not saying it can not be done, but I am saying if it is not properly done, it
will easily chip and peel away. All
experienced furniture painters always spend the money to buy and use the best
chalk and milk paint available and sealers of choice. Its expensive but so worth it to our
satisfied customers. So if you are in
the market for painted antiques just ask what they use and how is it sealed
prior to buying. You may pay a little
more but you will be so happy with years of everyday use and your purchase
still looks amazing!!

I use Facebook to let my customers and potential new
customers see what’s available, but since I have a working studio / shop at my
residence, some pieces are sold before I can get a photo. I am always open here and working on new
pieces so please come look……..do not feel obligated to buy….just look
around!! I enjoy the conversation and
it gives me a break. Its so beautiful
out today, I decided to do most of my work feeling the sunshine on my
face.

I want to make it as convenient as possible for my customers
so I found 113 North Main Street, Fountain Inn, SC as my new location. They are open Tuesday thru Friday 11:00-5:00PM
and Saturday 10:00 – 4:00PM. I would love to have been closer to downtown
Greenville, but the monthly overhead is too costly. In order for me to continue to give you
quality craftsmanship antique furniture, use top quality chalk and milk paint
products plus keep my prices low for you, my overhead needs to be low. So
that being said, I hope you don’t mind a short drive to the quaint town of
Fountain Inn, SC to shop with me. You will enjoy friendly faces and a charming restaurant
right next door.

It has become less of a burden since I have moved all of my antiques and accessories back to my home. Now it allows me more time to design antiques pieces and go on more
trips to find unique antiques. I did not realize how much
of my time was spent loading, unloading and hauling furniture to the shop. I am happy that I started in a shop because
so many people could see the quality of the workmanship (detailed painting techniques,
embellishments, etc.) that went into
every unique piece and it allowed me to grow in my designs. There is so much more into painting furniture
than putting paint on it. It was a
learning experience dealing with a shop instead of handling my own transactions
and talking to my customers. So many of
my closest friends listened to me rant about things happening at the shop and
they kept telling me “to get out”, but I didn’t listen soon enough. So many more negatives and positives, but you
learn as you grow!! My moto is, “you
give them a “one of a kind” unique quality piece of history and they will come”. Some people may feel uneasy about coming to
your home, but I have found that my customers don’t mind it at all and it is
like a treasure hunt at my house and you never know what you are going to find
painted or unpainted.!! LOL I have things everywhere…..patio, yard, garage
and all over my house. If you want to rummage
that’s fine with me and there is lots to see.
I don’t ever want my customers to feel like they have to buy something
just because they showed up. If you don’t
love it, don’t buy it!! I have just one request……..be sure to call me
first to make sure I am not out on a treasure hunt.

Winter is fast approaching us in the South. I am already day
dreaming of summer to be here again. I am preparing to haul furniture and
accessories to Sweeten Creeks Antiques in Asheville, NC in the next few weeks
and I hope and pray the weather will be nice. I have talked to many dealers
that travel to Asheville and they all reassure me that I should have a great
business there with my fair prices on unique custom painted furniture. By the way, I base my prices on how much I
have to pay for it and not the actual value of it. I spend a lot of my time searching for good
deals on quality pieces. I have, however, paid more for some pieces only
because they are a rare find and I will probably never find another one like
it. I always gravitate to the unusual
style of an old piece, ornate moldings and don’t forget the legs…. I love legs
with rusty old castors. In the early 1900’s people did not have air
conditioning so furniture had to withstand the heat. Can you imagine 98 degrees
with no air conditioning and you have to cook too?!!! These antique pieces have withstood many years
of weather, a house full of children and everyday use and they are still in
great shape. It amazes and excites me to
find a wonderful piece of our history that has traveled across the country and
made its home in the South. Here’s a
great example in the photo's above……I found this mid-century modern chest which is a very popular sleek
style and a designer told me to price it at $350.00. It is solid as the day it was built, the
drawers open and close like butter and it has the original pulls. It is painted in a pale blue chalk paint, lightly distressed and heavy waxed.....And best of
all, I am selling it for only $185.00.

I don’t crank out as many custom painted pieces of furniture
as I should and some pieces sit in my garages for months until I have a vision
of what I would like them to look like finished. That is probably not a good
business practice but sometimes it’s not all about the money……it’s about your
reputation as a designer. I want my
customers to be excited about buying a custom piece from me and know that it
will look beautiful for years to come. All antique furniture has flaws….some
more than others, so I take the time to make minor repairs, drill holes for new
updated hardware, replace damaged castors, etc. so these pieces will last with
everyday use for another 100 years. I
use the best chalk and milk paint I can find along with the waxes and
glazes. Trying to save money in products
really shows in the finished piece. I
tried that years ago and it makes a huge difference in the durability of
everyday use. Does it affect your selling
price??? Of course it does. I will pay
more for a well-built piece and drop my profit margins, than to buy a piece of
crap and cover it up with paint. Don’t
forget that old saying, “You get what you pay for”. Would you rather spend a few dollars more and
get a fabulous custom painted antique that will look great for years or would
you rather save a few dollars and buy a painted piece that looks good for now. It’s entirely up to you!!

I have been so busy hunting, painting delivering, etc. I just haven’t had the time. I have been trying to find another location for my shop and hopefully if everything goes well, I will be moving to a new location and only selling in Greenville from my home. It is stressful enough trying to keep up with my inventory without having to deal with other issues at my current Greenville location. Here’s a quick rundown of my recent custom designed pieces….most of them have already found forever homes. thebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2426272209615776831.post-6988901473152289342014-07-07T10:34:00.001-07:002014-07-07T10:34:21.725-07:00On a MissionI am on a mission to turn part of my garage into a working studio and have many of my finished painted furniture pieces arranged in a display setting. I accept most all major credit cards which makes it so much easier and a convenience for my customers. I will be uploading photo's on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/thebluedoorofgreenville?ref=hl) of the pieces I will have available that you can purchased directly from me. So when I get them uploaded and you see something you may be interested in, you can contact me via Facebook and we can set up a time for you to stop by. I live on Woodruff Road so it is sort of in the middle of everything. I will continue to have my shop at Southern Estates Antiques. They have been very good to me. Time permitting, I hope to also participate in some of the market events. PS: A few of these pieces did not last long and have already found new homes but I wanted you to see them anyway.

I, for the first time, participated in the Vintage Market in the Park in Greer this year and I had so much fun meeting and talking to people. When everything slowed down a little I walked around and spoke to other dealers. Over all, for me anyway, it went well. Of course, I was exhausted so I took a week off from painting anything. That’s a hard task for me. Usually it takes days to prep and finish furniture to my liking so I always try to have a few pieces of furniture ready to go in advance. Retail is unpredictable. I like to keep things moving, so I always try to keep my prices as low as I possibly can, which means I have to search and search myself to buy as low as possible. In the past few years painted antiques are very popular so more and more people are doing it. Keep in mind that paint covers up a multitude of sin such as water damage and falling apart furniture. I think that old saying holds true for this industry……you get what you pay for. I personally had rather pay a few dollars more and get a high end quality antique that will last another hundred years with proper care and maintenance than to go home with a piece of junk. Look for shabby chic not just plain shabby. Lol Well, that’s my tip of the day so go shopping and have fun!! thebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2426272209615776831.post-69240655850616369262014-03-31T07:34:00.000-07:002014-03-31T07:34:44.801-07:00Sharing KnowledgeI haven’t been on my blog in a while now, so I thought I would pop in and say hello and tell you about my latest news. Working with dark waxes and stains are sometimes tricky, so I am always open to new ways to improve and perfect my techniques. I met an old pro a while back (in painting, not age) that gave me some great advice on how to work with my dark waxes and aging techniques and I tried it on a table this past weekend and it is an amazing transformation!! I just stood back and said “wow”, I love it!! I have learned that a confident successful artist is always happy to share some of their knowledge with others. Of course, if you are in the business it is never wise to share everything you know. I am so excited to use my “new” knowledge on so many more pieces. Stop by my shop at Southern Estates Antiques and let me know what you think. Here is a few pictures …….. I tried to get a close up but you still can’t really see the richness of the colors from the photo’s. thebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2426272209615776831.post-10610648019593707152014-03-03T16:24:00.000-08:002014-03-03T16:24:08.307-08:00Hurry up Spring....I am ready for you!!It will soon be Spring!! This weekend was wonderful and Selena and I sat on the patio enjoying the warm sunshine. I went to an estate sale yesterday and that was fun. I usually look for old antiques but not primitive antiques so much, but I lucked up on some great pieces and I went to work. I try to have unique designs on every piece and I was very happy how these turned out. When I am trying to come up with a design I want it to be something that will blend in with todays modern slick lines and be an accent piece to a beautiful space. I don’t have my own shop so the people at Southern Estates meet and talk to all of my customers when I wish I could be there to do it myself so I can give them the background on many of my antiques that have a lot of history. I have been fortune enough to meet some of my repeat customers and its lovely to hear that they are enjoying their purchases from me. Here’s some photo’s of my latest pieces and a few of others, too!!thebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2426272209615776831.post-49639049814790661112014-02-05T12:07:00.001-08:002014-02-05T12:07:52.563-08:00An old door closes and a new one opensI have started to write numerous times and something always interrupts me so once again I will try to get this finished this time. Not unusual,I have been very busy. My day job will be coming to an end soon, so at least for a short time I will devote most of my time painting until I find a new job. I bought a singer sewing machine years ago but I only use it for little jobs. I have been staring at an upholstered footstool for some time now and I kept telling myself that I could reupholster it. If I just set my mind to doing it, I know I could reupholster this stool. Finally yesterday I decided to just do it. I chose a linen script fabric, measured, made my cuts and got started. Once I did all of my sewing, it slipped right over the stool perfectly, corners looked professional……happy, happy, happy dance!!!! So tonight I will finish her up. You will see her soon but meanwhile, here are a few photos of my newest creations!

This year I have several things going back on my “to do list”. My "to do's" began to pile up on me when I only have a short time to grocery shop, clean house, bargain hunt, refurbish and deliver my antiques to the shop and work eight hours a day. Wow….…I eat on the run, my head is spinning like a top with ideas, power sleep and when I finally do stop for a minute, I start thinking…….”where does the time go”? My daughter came over the other night with the kids and she organized all of my hundreds of furniture knobs for me. I really have an addiction to unique furniture knobs!! Hopefully you will get to see some of them soon on my up-coming projects!! This week I am bringing into the shop a unique chest with very clean lines. She will always be a classic for many, many years to come. I don’t have photo’s yet, but I will post photo’s as soon as I make her even more beautiful. It’s difficult to put that first brush of paint on a well-kept perfect piece of history and it was not hard to know she was loved and well cared for and hopefully she will find another home that will love her just as much!! I am also bringing in a large selection of unique pottery and mirrors so stay tuned!! My "Time to eat table" has been sold but I love it so much I posted another photo anyway!! thebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2426272209615776831.post-9174605933110491232013-12-07T07:10:00.000-08:002013-12-07T07:15:40.744-08:00Compassionate beginnings Earlier today I posted a comment on my business facebook page really because I have been so touched by photo’s of Andra Grace, a dog that was tortured and drug behind a truck and left for dead. I had a friend tell me I may offend someone and I should not post comments about it on my business facebook page. My thoughts……..this is who I am and will always be. I will not compromise or apologize for having compassion for others to my sell furniture. Just saying!!!! I think compassion comes from the early beginnings of our lives. I can remember as a child asking my mother if I could go visit an elderly neighbor of ours. I would stay for hours with this woman. She always walked with a cane. We would bake her special desert (prune squares-it sounds terrible but it was delicious) , walk through her pasture and talk, sit by her old wood burning stove and I loved spending time with her. And my dad….what a wonderful man!! I have had every animal you can think of growing up. Daddy would always bring home starving strays he had found and we would get them healthy again. Older people had superstitions and mama put a little bible and a liquor bottle in front of me and I picked up the little bible. She said I would carry that bible everywhere I went. My dad died with that little bible in his wallet. It was worn and the pages were falling out of it, but he still kept it all those years. The only real argument I had in school was over a very poor girl that had nothing and all the kids made fun of her. Don’t get me wrong! I can be a real butt when I need to be and say some ugly words when I am mad, or driving on Woodruff Road in traffic, which my daughter fusses at me about, but I have a big heart and I will always fight for the underdog. Well, that’s my thoughts for today!! Stay tuned……I have got to get ready to fight the traffic on Woodruff so you may hear me cuss a “little”!!! lolthebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2426272209615776831.post-62912848365140307562013-11-14T11:19:00.001-08:002013-11-14T11:19:38.442-08:00To Know Me......Here is a few things to know about me!!

There is someone new in the furniture painting business about every week. Competition keeps life interesting and it keeps my mind sharp with creative ideas to achieve unique designs with my vintage and antique furniture. One great thing about painting antique furniture is… it is almost impossible for anybody to duplicate it. Yes, someone else may paint it the same color, distress it, but it will never look the same……only because every person has their own techniques, style and uniqueness. The down side is the prices of top quality antiques are going up, up, up and it will make it harder to sell at reasonable prices!!! And I am all about keeping my prices reasonable! Vintage and antique furniture is in “high demand” because shabby chic and retro has become so popular. Most everybody likes it!!! There are still a few people that believe it’s ruined after you paint it. I can relate to that because I have several beautiful pieces in my garage right now that I am finding it hard to start painting. It is so much easier for me to justify painting a neglected antique. I have begun to free up some of my much needed garage space and I made a promise to myself NOT to buy anymore furniture for a while. It is so hard when I see an awesome antique just waiting for me to claim it!! It screams….make me beautiful again!! Lol I forgot how this business gets in your blood!! There was a time in my life that I would eat, breath and sleep the furniture business and it is happening all over again. Only this time, I am the one designing the finished pieces instead of the furniture manufacturers. Here’s a few of my latest finished pieces. This cocktail table reminds me of furniture from West Elm. I think it is a very cool piece (grey and white)!! I am always experimenting with colors and I found the perfect shade of grey. I will tell you that story next time!! thebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2426272209615776831.post-79314877404424782372013-10-19T15:09:00.001-07:002013-10-19T15:09:22.414-07:00Scored AntiquesI have been busy the past few weeks working on several tables getting them ready for the shop. By the time I get home it seems like its dark so I only spend about an hour each day on my painting. I don’t know about you but I am not looking forward to cold short days!! I found several moving sales and picked up some neat things I hope you will like. I scored a four (4) foot shelf that I like a lot!! I took several tables to the shop today and reduced several pieces down even more so super bargains here!! My brother just drove in from Alaska and will be staying in PA for a while. Even though he is a distance from me at least I know we can at least drive to see each other. Alaska is too far to hop in your car and drive to visit. He’s going to shop around for me to find some antiques and bring them to me!! Woo Hoo!!! Here’s a few photo’s of my latest designed pieces and a few photos of my shop at Southern Estates Antiques. thebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2426272209615776831.post-4415650201037124542013-10-01T12:12:00.000-07:002013-10-01T12:12:09.144-07:00Paint and bruisesIt is hard to believe it is October already. The last few days I have been dragging around since I worked so hard trying to finish up my last piece to get it to the shop and it is still in the back of my car!! When I finally sat down last night, I noticed bruises from my knees up and then I looked at my arm and had blue paint everywhere and I just got out of the shower!! I know my eyes are not what they used to me, but really?!!!!! How did I miss that!!! I keep telling myself I am too old to be doing this and what do I do? Load and unload by myself again and again!! I looked like a gypsy coming home the other day with furniture all the way to the back of my front seat!! I could barely see out of the sides of the car!! I try very hard to always be proactive, but I have been like a turtle this past week. I have two beautiful timeless mahogany dressers sitting in my garage and I still have not finished them. A vision of one is in my head, but I just haven’t wanted to get started. Maybe I need to start drinking energy drinks. My strong coffee just does not do it for me anymore!! Maybe today will be the day! I did decide to check out some of the department stores just to take a look at furniture. Some of my favorites is Anthropologie, The Pottery Barn, West Elm, etc. As you already know, I am eclectic so I love how these stores mix it up just like me!! I like the unexpected pop of color or fabric. Remember ladies, your home is a reflective window of you!!! I tell all of my clients, if you love it the minute you see it, if you can afford it… buy it with no regrets and you will surely find the perfect place for it in your home! It doesn’t matter if the color is not exactly the same shade of blue that’s in your room. Trust me when I say, it will blend in with your other shades of blues. You can make it happen with pillows, throws, rugs, lampshades, etc. My mother’s generation thought that everything in a room had to match, but in today’s world anything and everything goes!! Mix and match, odds and ends…… I visited an old friend a few weeks ago and she has beautiful expensive accessories and furniture but when you walk in, it just felt bland and sterile....not at all like her...happy and outgoing. She asked if I would help her, so we went to work and I touched and moved every single thing in there, threw in some pops of color and it was an amazing transformation!! It felt cozy and inviting!! Its like your clothing....don't you feel alive and happy when you are wearing a beautiful vibrant color?!! Happy dance!!!! Anyway, she loved it and when her sister came down from New York to visit, she could not believe how wonderful the room looked and felt. So the point to this story is….. step outside of the box ….mix a piece of painted furniture in with all of your dark wood and see how awesome it will look!! But beware, it is like eating potato chips, you won’t stop at just one!!! Wow, I was not planning on talking that much!! Anyway, there is amazing talent right here in Greenville and they add their own custom techniques and designs to each and every piece of vintage and antique furniture, so go shopping!! thebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2426272209615776831.post-10807159918386056842013-08-16T09:54:00.000-07:002013-08-16T09:59:36.495-07:00Blue signature colorI think everybody knows by now that blue is my signature color. All shades of blue!! There will always be a little shade of blue in a room no matter what your color choices may be. I also like using grey. It is like using white because it’s very neutral so I painted this antique chest in a mix of Annie Sloan’s chalk paint for a medium to light grey with a stencil embellishment just to give it a little “wow”. I distressed a little heavier on this piece than usual. I like distressing but I personally do not like the killed it with a brillo pad look!! Just my personal like and of course all of us are different in our likes and dislikes so I do try to keep that in mind when I am refinishing a piece of furniture. Back to the color……..grey looks awesome with pink, blue, yellow, green, black……you name it. The accessories pull everything together. I ordered some replacement castors from ebay just in case I ever needed them and while loaded this chest into the car I realized it had castors on it at one time, so lucky for me I just popped them in. This chest is made of a very thick mahogany wood and it is massively heavy so now it is so much easier to move around. I wish I could showcase how beautiful so many of my pieces would look in a room setting. Maybe someday if I win the lottery!! Wishing thinking!!! Now about my day…..when I left work yesterday I took a chair and several accessories over to the shop. Before leaving I took a lot of photo’s to show people all the awesome things coming in daily from our dealers on Southern Estates Antiques Facebook. It takes many hours out of my day to take pictures, load it onto my computer, work with the lighting on each photo, save it, and finally load it onto Facebook. It doesn’t matter if its painting and selling my pieces or helping someone else sell theirs it is worth the extra effort and time to me. So thank you so much for following us on Facebook…you are the BEST. Here is a few photos of my space at Southern Estates Antiques. I am always open for any advice from another dealer, customer, etc. so let me hear from you. thebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2426272209615776831.post-40102921797734947422013-08-14T12:07:00.000-07:002013-08-14T12:08:09.087-07:00Adventures of treasure huntingHere’s the latest adventures of my treasure hunting. I found an old dresser and mirror a few weeks ago and while loading it up I walked past a bedroom that had the most awesome old bedroom furniture in it. I asked if it was for sell too and the gentleman said yes!!! I immediately said, “I will take it”. They had sold their home and were moving to Florida and he did not want to move all of it and I can see why……..super heavy!!! What a great find though!!! I love the clean lines of it. It will be very retro once I paint it and will blend great with today’s styles. All the pieces are on old castors so it will be easier to move around. I ended up with five pieces and had to make three trips to pick everything up. It was so worth it!!! I have already started painting the old dresser and mirror. I am very happy with it so far!! I have been experimenting with mixing some of my paints together making custom colors for the next few pieces that I will bring into Southern Estates Antiques. I also have been using several of Miss Mustard Seed milk paint colors. Grain Sack has been painted on a mahogany arm chair with hints of Annie Sloan Antoinette Pink chalk paint. I am leaving the fabric seat in the original fabric of soft wide stripe pink and beige which is in mint condition. I just finished up some old folding antique chairs with original coffee grain sack material for the seats and I painted the chairs with Annie Sloan provence and old white. I custom mixed pure white with Graphite to make a soft shade of grey for an old mahogany chest on castors that I took to Southern Estates Antiques last week. I also have a bed that goes with this chest if anybody is interested. I also have a pair of rare antique french provincial night tables painted with Annie Sloan coco and old white, distressed and glazed for lasting beauty. So you can see…I have been very busy!! I never get tired of hearing how much people like and buy my furniture and accessories. That makes all of my hours and hours of searching, hauling, cleaning, painting, sanding, glazing, waxing and hauling again to the shop worth it!!! SO…..THANK YOU SO MUCH MY VALUABLE CUSTOMERS!!!thebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2426272209615776831.post-56179694126855767092013-07-10T07:03:00.002-07:002013-07-10T07:03:50.394-07:00An interesting few weeksIt has been an interesting few weeks. I rushed out the door Wednesday headed to Southern Estates and was pulled over by a patrolman. I always stop at the stop sign, but this time I did not come to a complete stop before pulling out into Pelham Road, ugh!! I slowed down and pulled right out in front of a patrolman!! I knew I had messed up and here comes the patrol car lights!!! He gave me a warning ticket for disregarding stop sign…..Thank you Lord!! I won’t do that again…whew!! I live everyday trying to beat the clock and I have got to start enjoying my life a little more, so the past few days I haven’t painted anything. I met my girlfriend at Red Lobster for dinner on Monday night and had a great time even though I had to drive home in rain flooding the roads. I went home Tuesday after work and sat on the patio with Selena and just enjoyed watching my flowers grow and my little backyard rabbit. Its funny, because in my mind I think I can go and go like a Duracell battery but I forget I am not twenty-five anymore and every day I seem to wake up with a new ache or pain. Oh well, life goes on and I am just happy to be here!! I like to keep things moving in my room at Southern Estates Antiques, so I always reduce prices on a regular basis. I want my unique finds to be affordable to everyone. It keeps things moving in my room and it makes me happy to know someone has a beautiful painted piece from me in their home. I have about every color chalk paint, chalk and clay paint, milk paint, waxes, glazes, stains, stencils and knobs out there, so tell me your favorite color and what you would like to see or have. I will be your personal shopper and try my best to find it for you. Send me a message via facebook. I hope to hear from you soon!!

thebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2426272209615776831.post-72949855356150688602013-06-27T07:15:00.000-07:002013-06-27T07:15:30.876-07:00Just go for it and SMILE!!Every year seems to get shorter and shorter the older I get. It almost July!! I have been painting antique furniture like a crazy person trying to keep a variety of pieces always available. Painted furniture is not for everybody. Some people love it and some do not, but even the furniture industries sell painted furniture because it is a “hot” item right now. I have several dealers that tell me they always smile when they walk by my room because it makes them feel happy. That’s what painted furniture does to people. You can have a room full of exquisite antiques but the room feels drab and heavy without color. It doesn’t have to be bold to brighten up the room, just some color, any color!! If you know me, then you know I am eclectic and I like to mix vintage with modern. When I look around my house it makes me happy. I see memories from my past in family antiques, a little quirky, a little modern, a few painted antiques, a few pieces of unique art I picked up years ago, a collection of rabbits and birds that I love. All these things are a reflection of me! I sell to a large number of younger people only because they are not afraid of mixing it up. My rule of thumb is….if you love it, buy it. You will always find just the right place for it in your home with no regrets. I have learned that from past experiences myself and pasted it up only to get home and think, “I should have bought that”. Go back and it is gone!! Darn, I wish I had bought that when I had the chance. So, having said all this….get inspired to paint your own, buy it already painted or commission someone to do it for you. Just go for it and you will not be disappointed and best of all, it will make you smile and feel happy every time you walk into the room!!

thebluedoorofgreenvillehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07136495237512849332noreply@blogger.com0
